Introduction
Hello! I am a former public defender who started my own law practice in April of 2021, specializing in domestic violence and other serious criminal charges.
Biography

Catherine Henry is a Central Florida native who moved to the Bay area in 2010. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from the University of North Florida. After graduation, she took some time off from her education to travel and spend time with family, before eventually earning her Juris Doctor from Stetson University College of Law in 2015.

After being admitted to the Florida Bar, she began her career at the Sixth Circuit Office of the Public Defender where she spent a significant amount of time in the misdemeanor domestic violence division before ultimately being promoted to a felony division. During that time, she gained invaluable skills, managing large caseloads and taking several cases to jury verdict. Most notably, she partnered with the American Civil Liberties Union to litigate the issue of pretrial detention, to secure affordable bonds and pretrial release for her clients held in custody on high monetary bonds.

In April of 2021, Catherine left the Public Defender’s Office and opened her solo law practice, Henry Defense, PLLC. While she handles most types of criminal charges, she specializes in domestic violence cases and also represents both petitioners and respondents in civil injunctions. Communication is key for Catherine and she prides herself on her accessibility to her clients.

Catherine is an active member of the legal community. She was elected to the board of directors for the St. Petersburg Bar Association in 2021, after previously serving two years as chair and one year as co-chair of the criminal law section. Recently, she was nominated and unopposed to be the Secretary or the St. Petersburg Bar Association for 2023-2024. Catherine also recently finished her second term as Secretary on the board of directors for the Pinellas Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (“PACDL”), after serving one year as Chapter Representative at the state level (“FACDL”). Catherine was the 2021-2022 Young Lawyer / Pro Bono Director for the Pinellas Chapter of the Florida Association for Women Lawyers (“P-FAWL”), and previously served as a board member of the Sarasota Chapter of the Florida Association for Women Lawyers (“Sarasota FAWL”). She currently volunteers with the Lawyers for Literacy program and was formerly a volunteer with the Guardian Ad Litem program in Pinellas County.
